Yesterday was Day 142 of the Bible Recap. We began with Psalm 95 which is a beautiful invitation for us to acknowledge He is our Maker AND our Shepherd by bowing down and kneeling before Him. Not only did he create us, but He watches over us. He walks with us in our day in and day out. I’ve always loved this Psalm and the old 90s praise songs that have come from it, but yesterday it stirred my heart in deeper ways. If you’re able, read it out loud and see if your heart stirs as well!
“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.” Psalm 95
My next reading was Psalm 97-99, but I just made it to the end of 97 and knew the Lord was speaking directly to my heart. My heart of wondering and wandering. The author of the Bible Recap said it so beautifully, “if you’re in a dark season, the light and joy might not have bloomed yet, but God has planted them. Sometimes it takes a while for things that are planted to grow and bear fruit, but trust that they’ve been sown you for you by His hand. May His light dawn on you…” And most of you know, I’ve been journeying through a dark or at least grey season since Christmas of 2021 when I asked for the Jesus Storybook Bible. (If you’re new here - I think you get the gist, but you are welcome to read my blog if you’d like to catchup.)
Here’s what got me. I dare you to read it out loud:
“The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!
Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around.
His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.
All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods!
Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.
O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!”
